Age of Unicorns: The Trilogy
Part III: Age of Awakening
The King of Unicorns Returns to The Shrine
After his victories in the battles across the galaxy, the king and his army could have chosen any number of planets on which to settle. But they had discovered, during the course of their long journey and their visits to countless other planets, that earth was the most beautiful planet in the entire solar system, for it had a nature like no other, and was filled with sources of energy. So, the king decided to keep the promise he had made before leaving earth: that he would one day return.
He set off for earth, intending to reclaim his throne, as he still saw himself as the king of the planet. But when he landed on earth, he was shocked to discover that the humans, who had once been the servants and slaves of the unicorns, were now the ruling race, and that the unicorn civilization had been wiped out entirely, and that the entire unicorn race had been annihilated, leaving neither trace nor memory behind. The very few remaining members of the race were the Moon’s Unicorns, who had managed to hide themselves away from the humans. He also discovered that the legendary horns of the Patron and Patroness of the unicorns had somehow found their way into human hands, and that this had been the answer to his prayer that someone inherit the precious artifacts. Seeing all that had befallen the unicorn civilization, the king’s heart grew heavy with sorrow for his race, and he was filled with rage against the humans, who had hunted his people to extinction. He asked the Moon’s Unicorns, as well as the remaining maligans, to join his army in order to wipe out the humans, so that the unicorns might rule the earth once more. But the Moon’s Unicorns and the maligans refused, telling him that they would not be party to the outbreak of a war between humans and unicorns, and that it was the Unicorns Civil War and the greed to rule the earth that had caused the annihilation of their civilization, killed off their ancestors and indeed their entire lineage. They told him that there could be no real winner in any war, and that all they wanted was to be able to live in peace alongside the humans.
The king then asked the Patron and the Patroness of the unicorns to grant him the legendary and powerful horns of his ancestors so that he might leave planet earth in peace. But they, too, refused him, for they had decided that the horns rightfully belonged to the peoples of the earth and were to be used only for the protection of the earth and its inhabitants. The king was shocked and deeply disillusioned. He was angry as well, for he had spent 30,000 years fighting wars across the galaxy in vain. He was no longer welcome on earth, the planet he had dedicated his entire life to protecting. He felt that he had been betrayed by the Moon’s Unicorns, the fellow members of his race, who had refused to join him, and he was enraged at the humans for what they had done to his people.
And so, the King of the Unicorns declared general war against every creature on earth, from humans to unicorns to maligans, having decided that he would fight until he either came to rule the earth once more, or until the entire planet and all its inhabitants had been destroyed. The Patron of unicorns too, began to gather an army that included the Patroness of unicorns, the Moon’s Unicorns, the maligans and humans besides, marking the first time in the history of the world that all the races of the earth had come together as one. The Patron even called on the earth’s consciousness herself, Gaia, who reacted to the intentions that had been projected by the Patron and his allies, asking that Gaia stand with them in their fight. And so, Gaia released a universal force field to protect the earth.
As they prepared for battle, the Patron and his allies were shocked to discover that there were in fact two great armies hidden on earth: first, an army made of tribes that had once walked the earth during the Age of Unicorns, whose soldiers had been transformed into crystal statues by the unicorn princes and hidden away in secret locations when the unicorn war had begun, thousands of years ago. The princes hoped that the crystal unicorns would one day rise up to form an army when they were most needed, and so the Patron and Patroness undid the spell in order to transform the crystal statues back to their natural state as living unicorns so that they might fight alongside them. The reanimated unicorns pledged their allegiance to the Patron as their true king.
The second army they discovered was that of the first king of the humans and his soldiers. After this army had defeated the Ruby Tribe, they had accidentally transported themselves to another dimension on earth when they activated one of the pyramid portals, trying to discover how it worked. The Patron was able to return them to the current dimension. The human king and his army were all equipped with the quartz weapons that were so deadly to the unicorns, and the Patron convinced them to join forces with him against the invading unicorn king. Together, they fought the impostor king and his dreadful army. Many were killed on both sides, and during the final battle, the Patron engaged in direct combat with the king of the unicorns in a heated fight that ended with the Patron slaying the king.
The army of earth had emerged victorious and defeated the unicorn army, and the Patron declared that from that point on, planet earth would be a single nation for all, protecting all the races that dwelled within, from humans to unicorns to maligans, and that they would all live side-by-side in peace, harmony, and equality, with no divisions among any of the races. He announced that he would no longer be known as the Patron of unicorns, but rather the Patron of earth. He drafted a universal peace treaty along with many numbers of other races on various different planets, with the aim of fostering stability and coexistence among all the peoples of the galaxy.
